The ice-making process is an important factor that affects the ice quality and energy consumption of rinks. An unsteady heat transfer model established validated for process. transient temperature variation thickness growing characteristics during are analyzed. freezing time a water layer final stabilized quantified. effects rink structural parameters on studied. results show variations go through three stages. ice-growing mainly occurs in second stage. takes about 305 min–420 min 5 mm thickness. reduction decrease can be attained by reducing thickness, surface flux, cooling pipe spacing, fluid pipe, or top concrete Among them, influences layer, more significant. As decreases from 7 to 3 mm, total 37.6%. reduced 17.1% with flux decreasing 330 W/m2 250 W/m2. 21.4% −15.5 °C −19.5 °C.
